Mark’s work is inspired by rural life and landscape. He is perhaps best known for his highly detailed drawings produced in a combination of graphite and colour pencil, a style that he developed to suit Animal Portraits for commission that formed the majority of Mark’s work for many years but which also worked well for architectural studies. More recently Mark has been diversifying, working increasingly with paint and ink. Mark finds his inspiration by immersing himself in the countryside of the Peak District and surrounding. Not only the right places and right time is key to ideas for his work, but also the shapes and structure balanced with a certain light can sometimes make a carefully chosen view exciting to portrait.
A professional Artist, Mark works full-time from his UK studio in Belper, Derbyshire. He trained in Design and Illustration and graduated from Sheffield College in 1995, before starting his working life as a graphic artist.
Mark is a member of The Peak District Artisans. He has won a number of awards most recently winning three prizes at the Buxton Spa Exhibition. Mark is always happy to undertake commissions.
