Exhibition: ‘A Different Kind of Painting’
06 Aug - 18 Aug
We are very excited to introduce the work of two artists who have only been with us for a short while – photographer Valerie Dalling and ceramicist Zoë Marsh, with an exhibition from August 6th to 18th, titled ‘A Different Way of Painting’.
Valerie has a passion for exploring the outdoors with her camera, her focus being on the natural environment and the effects of light on colour, shape and texture. While keeping an open mind on interpretation remains key to her practice, she is inspired by painterly abstracts and more representational photography. However, it’s the landscape itself which will always remain her biggest influence and where she feels most at home.
Zoë’s work is textile in spirit. Using both traditional and digital techniques she decorates the surface of her handmade tiles with a combination of her own drawings, textile samples, found papers and glazes, often adding wire, fabric or thread to her work for a contrast in surface texture. She uses the local landscape as a starting point, often combining or contrasting it with her own emotional and abstract responses to everyday experiences. Zoë was the winner of the 2017 Ashbourne Festival Arts prize.
